Lankaran-Astara economic - geographical region print

Lankaran-Astara economic-geographical region located in the South-East part of the Republic, borders on Iran Islamic Republic in the South and on the Caspian Sea in the North; Jaliİabad, Masalli, Yardimli, Astara, Lankaran and Lerik are subregions o f the territory. The area o f the region comprises 5.3 thousand km2. There are 6 cities and 10 urban type settlements in the territory. The surface is mainly covered with mountainous (Talysh Mountains) and towlands (Lankaran lowland) in the east and Northern-East parts of the territory. The surface of the Lankaran lowland is smooth and was founded by sandy-clay, marine and alluvial-proluvial sedim ents of anthropogenic system. The climate of the lowland is moderate warm with dry summers, subtropical and the soil primarily is gley-podzol yellow type.
The vegetation of the area was composed o f sieeves and sparse woody field that emerged from the forests and Hirkan type forests (Persian iron tree, chestnut oak, zelkova and etc.). The Paleogen sediments have spread in mountainous areas meanwhile Anthropogenic sediments have stretched in the lowlands. The area abounds wilh deposits of clay and mineral waters. The river network system in the region is dense. The main rivers are the following; Lankaran, Vilash, Astara and etc. Khanbulanchay water reservoir was created in the territory of Lankaran region. The total area of the district comprises 5331 km.
Climate conditions: Annual amount of solar luster is 2200-2400 hours. According lo ihe middle temperature o f the coldest month, the severe of the winter for the area passes mild and the mildest. Feasible evaporation for warm period (April-October) is around 1000 mm. The number of arid days is ranging between 5-10 days between June and September months and the middle annual rate of the wind changes around 2 m/second and more. Continental climate changes around moderate continental (up to 205) and middle continental ranges (up to 165). The length of nonfrost period during the year is 150-250 days or more, but the amount of days with temperature below 0 C is 10-15 days in Jalilabad, Masalli and Lankaran, 10-100 days in Astara and 20-100 days in Lerik and Yardimli. The days with snow cover fluctuates between 10-120 days: 10-40 days in Jalilabad, Masalli and Lankaran, 10-80 days in Astara and 40-120 days in Lerik and Yardimli. The flora of Talysh region is distinguished not only from point of Azerbaijan but also all over the world. Iron wood (Parrotia persica), chestnut oak (Quercus castaneifolia), zelkova (Zelkova sp.), Caspian locust (Gleditsia caspica), Silk-tree (Albizia julbrissin), Hyrcan box tree, Hyrcanian fig (Ficus hyrcanica), Hyrcanian poplar (Popylus hyrcana), Hyrcanian butcher's-broom (Ruscus hyrcana) and Alexandrian laurel (Danae racemosa) are relict and unique bushes and trees spread of the region.
